Tarpon in Floodwaters - 1 Mar 2011
Trip Report by Dave Little
With the week off my priority has been to find some fish for the wand. Yesterday I found some barra holding up in a local creek, but they soon disappeared after the rain storms of the day led to a rise and dirtying of the water levels. This morning I took the opportunity to drive north with a view to finding some more barra or tarpon. Ingham had a lot of rain overnight and many of my favoured spots were cut-off due to localised flooding, so tarpon it wad! Size 6 and 4 gurglers and cicada patterns were my choice for the morning and I had an absolute ball catching one after the other... hooking literally dozens of fish in the couple of hours I was out. The highway was shut north of Ingham this morning and the highway was a little quieter than usual so I even braved a quick stop at Cattle Creek where the tarpon were shoulder to shoulder from bank to bank. A top morning!
