The Jindabyne Flyfishing School - Richard Stanhope

In early December 2010 Caradoc and I spent five days at the Jindabyne Flyfishing School which is located just out of the township of Jindabyne on the Mowamba River. We were met by our hosts, Brian and Anne Henderson, in Canberra, who transported us to their School and the Mowamba Lodge.
The facilities were superior with quality accommodation and first class hospitality.  One of the key features is the purpose designed casting pond and the four dams.

Brian, a Fly Fishing Federation Master Fly Casting Instructor, set up an ‘Intermediate Program’ which included tuition and coaching in the basics, roll casting, line control, distance and mending.  Detailed lessons and practice on the grip, stance, loops, lift-off, back cast, pick up and lay down, false casting, line hand, shooting line, hauling and accuracy, followed.  More theory and practice occurred throughout our stay while Brian guided us to Lake Jindabyne and Eucumbene, and the Murray and Thredbo Rivers. Brian provided expert guidance on the water passing on useful tactics, techniques and approaches for fishing the various types of waterways.

As a Guide and Coach Brian is an outstanding teacher.  He provided quality Sage equipment and travel was in a Toyota 4WD fitted out for guiding and trout fishing

The trip was over the period of 2-7 Dec and the cost included all meals, accommodation, coaching and tuition, and extensive guiding in the area. The trip met and exceeded our expectations – it was very good value for money and I would not hesitate recommending the School to anyone who wishes to enhance their fly fishing skills.  Brian’s website is well worth a visit at: www.flyfishing.com.au
