Quiet in the Northern Creeks - June Club Trip
Most at the June meeting had other plans for the Show day weekend, be it chores, trips away with family, or work. So when Richard S and Dave showed interest in a fish it was quickly decided that Dave would show Richard a special little spot just to the north of town on Saturday afternoon. The afterno0on didn't start too well when Dave realised the foot pedal for his electric was still sitting in his fishing room, but thankfully we persisted.
It wasn't too long into the session before we started to see some movement, quite a bit of nervous bait and some high flying sea mullet got us a little excited. In the end it was a 'pink day' with most strikes and the only boated fish coming on a pink, fuzzle-dubbed shrimpy pattern. A number of other strikes came from rolling tarpon, but as usual these larger versions were hard to keep hooked.
As a post script, a quick morning session on Monday confirmed that the fish were still there, but equally timid on the strike, with a number of half-hearted takes from barra and jacks.
