Nothing to Report: July Club Trip
The July trip this year was scheduled for a Blue water excursion. Unfortunately the weather gods didn't agree, and for one reason or another only Richard W and myself were able to attend. Richard has been on a mission to catch a legal barra for his top 10, and well... so am I, so we decided to head to one of the northern beaches and try our luck.
I was naively confident, having visited the estuary in quetsion not so long ago to witness dozens of barras up to 65cm or so laying up in the sun keeping warm. Alas, it wasn't to be this time... Not a single touch, and apart from a stray mullet or two, the creek was very quiet. We walked about as far as we could, practising our roll casts, and hoping in vein to stumble across a feeding fish or two....
Discretion was the better part of valour this time, and rather than blindly persist we decided on a change of venue a little closer to home. Much more open conditions greeted us this time, and there was clearly more activity. But we couldn't even land an estuary cod. My one "hit" turned out to be a submerged branch.
Despite the lack of fish it was still good to get out, and I enjoyed showing Richard some water that he would probably otherwise not have ever seen.
