The NQ Flyfishers Media / Open Day - October 1, 2011
This year the media day is to be held on Saturday 1st October. Activities for the day will include a fishing trip in the morning followed by a barbeque lunch, a swap meet, a few accuracy and distance type casting competitions, a fly tying competition and as the Coupe de Gras this year we are aiming to hold a mini film festival / competition.
Program
06:30 - 11:30 fly fishing Alva Beach (meeting at Heatley Secondary College at 6am)
13:00 - 16:30 Casting competition (a set course using club equipment)
16:30 - 18:00 Fly fishing jumble sale (you bring and sell your old stuff!)
18:30 - 19:30 Sausage sizzle
19:30 - 21:30 Final judging of DVDs, including presentation of casting competition and fly competition winners.
Cost $10 for the day covers Casting Comp, Fly comp and DVD entry and sausage sizzle.
Prizes are to be announced but at this stage there will be a prize for first to third. Sponsors are required.
You can of course join in any or all activities.
Fly Tying Competition
3 flies, 1 flats, 1 estuary and 1 freshwater no later than the 26th September to be sent to Ward, see details below. All flies will remain property of NQ Flyfishers Inc.
Flies will be judged on
1) Appearance
2) Fish ability
3) Construction
4) Cast ability
5) Instructions to construct
Rules for the DVD.
Competition judging criteria could include:
1) Variety of shot size, camera angle and camera movement that creates and holds interest for an audience.
2) Use of point-of-view (POV) shots and close-ups/extreme close-ups for reaction shots and important detail.
3) Soundtrack/sound effects that create an appropriate mood/atmosphere for the edited footage (e.g, dramatic, reflective, comical, inspirational).
4) A pace of editing (how fast or slow shots change during the film) that suits the chosen soundtrack/mood (the use of simple cuts allows a faster pace of editing; fades to black, fades to white or cross-fades all help create a slower pace of editing for soundtrack with a slower tempo.)
5) Creative use of titling (font type, size and the option of animated titling).
6) The use of special effects, where appropriate (slow/fast/reverse motion, video filters (overlays of, for example, a charcoal outline, falling rain or some other computer generated effect).
7) Interesting 'wow-factor' location choices and creative use of lighting (either natural light or electric).
A simple storyline is not an essential but can often add a lot of entertainment value.
9) The length is to be a total of 5 minutes including credits.
10) DVDs to be sent and arrive 1 week before judging.
11) If DVDs are to be returned a postage paid with return address envelope is required

12) Top three announced on the night.
13) If the judges cannot separate the top three they will be judged by audience decree on the night.
13) Winners to pick up prizes.

15) Ownership stays with the individual but the club would like to show on its web site.
